Is it really a “buyers market?” Then why is it so difficult for buyers to buy a decent, affordable home? It seems like the professionals are looking out for themselves, and the banks that often own these properties. Is there no hope for you, the buyer?

Have no fear! Applying these 3 basic must-do tips will help you to get answers you need, understand the process, and eventually to buying a decent home you can afford.

1. Get a good, honest, experienced Realtor who will be upfront with you about any potential issues. This may be as tough as finding a decent home, but remember, you want to remain happy in this home. Find a Realtor who wants the same for his or her customers. Interview them before you make any agreement to use them. If you think you will find better answers elsewhere, go elsewhere.
2. Get a good, honest, lender who will get you the best possible deal on a loan. A good source for this may be from the realtor you found in tip #1. Realtors want lenders who care as much about their customers as they do, and ones that will work hard to find any programs you could qualify for.
3. Take a home-buying education class. Most lenders and assistance programs require this anyway, but these classes are invaluable, covering every subject related to the home buying process. The people who organize and run these classes know what they are talking about. Learn from them; you will know what steps to take in the process, and the pitfalls to avoid.

Granted, buying a home in today’s market is a huge challenge, so you want to work with people who are your friend and advocate. Find people who know the ropes and can guide you through the process. Don’t give up. If you apply these three tips, you are more likely to succeed, and however long it may take in this market, you could be in a decent, affordable home of your own.
