Finding The Affordable Home
Finding an affordable home is different for each family. It seems what one family may be able to afford, another cannot. So what does this mean to you? Knowing your own resources and how to best manipulate those resources to make that dream home an affordable reality for you and your family is what it may mean.
First gather your W-2 forms from the past few years. This will give you a good indication of what financial resources you have, as well as give yourself an average of your income over a year’s span of time. Once you’ve completed this, sit down and make a list of all of your expenses. Don’t leave out anything. List everything from utilities to every soda pop you purchase from the machine in the office lounge. Everything you spend money on should be on this list.
Secondly, go through the list and divide the categories into necessities versus nonessential items. Do you see some things on that list that you can live without? Cut those out of your budget. Don’t let frivolous spending get in the way of affording that new home. Reassess your budget and see what the items are that you can absolutely live without. Are you spending too much money going to the movies? Try renting a DVD and having some microwave popcorn instead. Or it might be something as simple as packing your lunch for work instead of eating fast food. Either way, these extra expenses can be eliminated rather easily and without you noticing a huge change in your lifestyle. After all, isn’t it worth it if you can own your own home?
